Department of Urology of Bundang Jesaeng General Hospital Successfully Performs Robotic Ureteral Reconstruction Surgery

Daejin Medical Center Bundang Jesaeng General Hospital (Hospital Director, Na Hwa Yeop) successfully performed robotic ureteral reconstruction surgery on September 10.

Dr. Son Jeong-hwan, Head of the Department of Urology at Bundang Jesaeng General Hospital, performed the ureteral reconstruction surgery on patient A using the Revo-i robot. Patient A had suffered ureteral damage following a previous gynecological surgery at another medical institution. Dr. Son identified the length of the damaged ureter using the robotic surgical system and reconstructed the ureter in a tube shape by creating a flap from the bladder.

Robotic surgery using the Revo-i allows for precise surgery using an articulated instrument and provides an excellent view of the surgical site by magnifying more than 10 times with a 3D high-definition camera. In particular, robotic urological reconstruction surgery offers the advantages of faster patient recovery and the ability to perform delicate surgery in narrow spaces compared to open surgery or laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Son Jeong-hwan, Head of the Department of Urology at Bundang Jesaeng General Hospital, stated, “Urological surgery is inherently difficult due to its anatomical characteristics, but the magnified view allowed us to perform a more precise suture of the narrow ureter, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues and leading to faster patient recovery.”

Meanwhile, Bundang Jesaeng General Hospital introduced the Revo-i robotic surgical system in June and has been performing precise surgeries in various departments, including surgery, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, and cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, to enhance patient satisfaction.
